I’ll be a bitch because I can
When I say I knew who John Mayer was waaaay before you did, I mean it. I fell in love with ‘Comfortable’ forever and a day ago. I remember humming ‘No Such Thing’ and no one having a clue what it was.
I took a hiatus from John. I had to. In my eyes, he sold out. Once MTV caught wind of him, he re-did a lot of the music I already loved and gave them a more poppy, more marketable sound. He escalated into this arrogant ass…and started making more marketable crap. ‘Your Body is a Wonderland’? Really John? ‘Daughters’? What the hell was all that? Just wasn’t John Mayer music to me.
I continued listening to my favorites–the good stuff. ‘My Stupid Mouth,’ ‘Man on the Side,’ ‘Comfortable,’ now those are good damn songs.
My hiatus ended when Continuum was released. It’s just good music. It’s the kind of stuff that will carry over to the next generation.
It’s hard not to hear his cockiness carry over into his music these days, too, but maybe that’s just me.
I still don’t like John Mayer, but I like his music–the new, and the old, but not that crap in the middle…that non-music.
[No offense if anyone likes that stuff, I might not hate it all so vehemently if it had come out in a different way or at a different time.]

I love “Continuum” - I was never really a big fan before that… I was just a casual radio listener. I enjoyed the singles but I always heard the bad things about him so I kept him at a distance. I still don’t care so much for him as a person but “Continuum” is brilliant - so I’ve learned to seperate the music from the person and it’s worked pretty well for me.
Now, I have to listen to it
Thanks alot Jadeline!
My body is a county landfill.
Fab, I’m fairly certain that’s a widely-known fact. But one man’s trash is another man’s treasure…which is why you have a net-stalking lunatic writing to you!
Kristi–I have that song, I’m gonna find another you, stuck in my head.
