InvestorBlogger is running a contest–one I really like the idea of.
There’s an image here, if you can guess what it is, your name will be thrown in for the chance to have it sent to you!
Looks to me like an external harddrive and while I already own one, I could always use another to keep some of my media instead of deleting it all! I go geeky ga-ga over externals!

We’ve gotten into the Wii. Okay, that’s an understatement. I am the proud owner of many Wii games already!
On the virtual console (this is where you download retro games from the old systems):
- Paper Mario (N64)–Keri is dominating this one right now. I bought it to play, but other things caught up, and I’ve really just been enjoying watching Keri. I’ll definitely finish my own at some point, but there’s been something fun about everyone collectively deciding what Keri should do at different points. I love watching paperthin Mario waft into a bed like a floating leaf!
- Super Mario Bros 3 (NES)–Well, there was just no getting around this one. It’s THE Mario game. Andrew and JR have been on it. It totally reminds me of being a kid, watching them take turns when they die. Memories, man!
- Mario Kart (N64)–Ryan just bought this one yesterday and I haven’t had a shot at it quite yet. It looks hella fun though! It’s basically racing and you get items to sabotage opponents. I watched Ryan and Josh in a head-to-head mode where the object was to injure your opponent 3 times. I’m especially looking forward to hitting that one.
There’s also the Wii Vote channel where you take polls and also predict what you think the rest of the world will answer. Usually after about a week you can come back and see your results and it keeps track of how often you predict correctly.
And the Check Mii Out channel is pretty new, but I’m expecting it’ll get bigger. In general, you can submit miis you’ve created for other people to see. Omg you wouldn’t believe the creativity! I’ve even seen one where they used all the available facial aspects to create a little Mickey Mouse! I was floored! There’s also a section where you create miis to enter into contests to see who can create the best one based on a theme. I’ve seen a Thanksgiving Pilgrim, Gingerbread man, Mario sans hat, and Tooth Fairy. After submissions have ended, you can go in and vote on your three favorites. I expect his section will grow even more later.
As far as hard copies of games, I’ve only got Wii Sports, Wii Play, and *ahem* Guitar Hero III !!
I don’t know how anyone could avoid getting sucked into Guitar Hero. I freaked when I first turned it on because the settings were way off! On Hi-def tvs you sometimes have to calibrate it so that the timing with the music is what it’s supposed to be. It hasn’t been easy thus far, but I don’t want it to be! I’m by no means great at the game, and I don’t really expect I ever will be, but that’s why I have the boys. They can do everything on the higher levels and unlock everything I can’t
And I’m totally okay with that.
I had been looking around online and got frustrated with the GH3 prices online, knowing I could go into GameStop and get it for $89. I got around $130 for my Birthday, so I just set out. I hadn’t decided if I was going to get it or not, I just wanted to see if they still had it.
Well, last week they were fully stocked, so when I walked in and saw only 2, I knew I had to go ahead and get it. Gh3 is still selling out all over the place, and I had a feeling if I didn’t get it now, it’d be well after Christmas before I could. I can be patient, but not THAT patient.
I was proud of myself though, I brought it home and finished studying for finals before I turned it on. I deserve a medal or something for that…

On Wednesday I went next door to let the guys entertain me. Alas, I ended up just looking through Game Informer ’cause they were playing a much less entertaining game than I had previously thought. My bad!
Of course, this brought up the lovely issue of me finding no less than 5 games I desperately want to own…none of which I even have the correct system for. *sigh* I hate when I’m not caught up enough with game technology!
Well, at On Top Results, a Charlotte Web Design firm, they’re giving away your choice of one of three items– an LCD monitor, a 5gig iPod, or an Xbox 360. Well, I already have an iPod, and technically, I own 2 LCD monitors, but wow! A free Xbox 360? For real? Sign me up for this one!
Again, it’s as simple as blogging and adding a link. 10 minutes of your time could find you wasting away on a couch with an Xbox controller! You KNOW that sounds appealing!

So this Garmin Nuvi 360 is what we used on our Oklahoma trip. I’ve been a little curious about these GPS systems, partly because Ryan brings them up pretty regularly, and partly because they’ve just recently started making commercials that have drawn my attention to them. So when we loaded up and I saw that we were using one, I was really interested to see how it’d work out.
Overall, I could definitely see the benefit. I haven’t had other experiences to compare it to, but by my stepfather’s reckoning, he thinks the TomTom is a better brand.
For the most part, the Garmin was right on. We hit more patches than I expected where the roads had been changed and the Garmin maps weren’t updated to show it. It was understandable when we were stopping for food in smaller cities and heading through some of the country roads, but there was more than one instance on a major interstate where the Garmin showed us driving through the woods, even though the roads had been changed for well over a year. (I don’t know how long for certain, but to me, I saw no evidence of the old road that should’ve still been in sight from where we were.)
I really would’ve liked a pause feature on the unit, as well. Now, I’ll be honest in saying that I didn’t really get to play with it much myself, but it seemed the only option really, was to turn it off, or back all the way out to the menus. It got really annoying to hear, “Recalculating,” every time we pulled off for gas, or when we were on those mysterious interstates that didn’t exist…
I’ll admit though, the times when it showed us as lost, it was always still obvious where we needed to go. So I’d say for anyone with a decent sense of direction, it’s definitely worthwhile. It was amazing to be able to hit “food” and see a list of places nearby!
It’s given me an idea of how well GPS systems can work, and now I’m considering looking into something cheaper for Ryan, maybe for Christmas. I think I’m gonna get Roger to help me look into my options. I’m gonna ask him about the system they had before the Garmin. I know it was a little cheaper, and I may be able to find a good one on Ebay. Ebay is my homeboy
