Jane–Jefferson Starship
This is one of those songs that just reminds me of being in the car with my mom when I was younger. She’s always had great taste in music! I remember when she first got hooked on this song I liked it just because it was close to my name, but of course after hearing it on repeat every car ride, I just plain liked it.
Jane you say it’s all over for you and me, girl
There’s a time for love and a time for letting it be, baby
Jane you’re playin’ a game called…
Called hard to get by its real name
Makin’ believe that you just don’t feel the same
Oh Jane!
Jane you’re playin’ a game you never can win girl
You’re stayin’ away just so I’ll ask you where you’ve been baby
Like a cat and a mouse (cat and a mouse)
From door to door and house to house
Don’t you pretend you don’t know what I’m talkin’ about
Were all those nights we spent together (hey hey)
Only because you didn’t know better
I’ve got to know
Jane, you’re playin’ a game, you’re playin’ a game, playin’ a game
(Jane Jane Jane)
Oh Jane you’re playin’ a game of hide and go seek
Jane you’re playin’ for fun but I play for keeps; yes I do
(Jane Jane Jane)
That’s a game on me yeah
(Jane Jane Jane)
It’s so plain to see
(Jane Jane Jane)
Janie, Janie, Janie, Janie, Jane
(Jane Jane Jane)
Why you foolin’ with me, me, me
(Jane Jane Jane…)

Welcome to the first installment of Remember Wednesday! For the full lowdown of what it’s all about, check out my introductory post.
For my first Remember Wednesday post, I’ve got two songs I’m completely in love with, but come from a really rough patch in my life. Back when Ben, my then boyfriend of 3 years, and I broke up, well, the world pretty much blew up for me. It was something like a 4-5 month process that was just absolutely ridiculous.
Up first is “Best of You,” from Foo Fighters. Wow—talk about a breakup song! Is someone getting the best of you—How many different ways can you interpret this line? I still think this song kicks some major ass and I absolutely can’t listen without rocking out by either spazzing in my chair or screaming along to the lyrics at the top of my lungs. Oh and screaming along with Dave Grohl live? Amazing. I’ve bolded some of the parts that struck me the most at that time.
Best of You
I’ve got another confession to make
I’m your fool
Everyone’s got their chains to break
Holdin’ you
Were you born to resist or be abused?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you? Are you gone and on to someone new?
I needed somewhere to hang my head
Without your noose
You gave me something that I didn’t have
But had no use
I was too weak to give in
Too strong to lose
My heart is under arrest again
But I break loose My head is giving me life or death
But I can’t choose
I swear I’ll never give in
No, I refuse
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
Your trust, you must
Confess
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Oh..
**vocalizing**
Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
The life, the love You’d die to heal
The hope that starts
The broken hearts
Your trust, you must
Confess
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
I’ve got another confession my friend
I’m no fool I’m getting tired of starting again
Somewhere new
Were you born to resist or be abused?
I swear I’ll never give in
I refuse
**And this is the part where spazzing begins…if it hasn’t already**
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
Your trust, you must
Confess
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
And then came Coldplay with “Fix You,” and those soothing words were just what I needed–what I longed for.
Fix You
When you try your best but you don’t succeed When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can’t sleep
Stuck in reverse.
And the tears come streaming down your face When you lose something you can’t replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones And I will try to fix you
And high up above or down below
When you’re too in love to let it go
But if you never try you’ll never know
Just what you’re worth
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
Tears stream, down your face When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down your face and I…
Tears stream, down on your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down your face and I…
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you.
Be sure to check the comments for other Remember Wednesday posts!
You know those songs that every time you hear, you draw up a particular memory, or thoughts of a specific time in your life? Well I wanna hear about it!
Next week I’ll begin “Remember Wednesday.” Every Wednesday I’ll post a song and along with it, the memory it brings up for me. I invite you all to do the same and leave me a link in the comments!
The rules are simple:
Post a song–you can go as basic as posting a link to the lyrics, or go all out with a snippet, a download, a video–whatever you want! You can even post more than one if you’ve got more tied to the same memory.
Tell us what it always reminds you of–is it the lyrics, or was this song just part of your life during that time?
Link back to the weekly post (found here) so your readers can find other Remember Wednesday posts
Leave a comment here, with a link to your post, so we can all come read!
I’m not really sure how well this will catch on, but I’m going to continue it regardless of the amount of participation I get. It’s something I wanted to do on my own in the first place and just decided it’d be fun to turn it into a weekly thing with other bloggers. I hope you’ll join me!
