This week is all about first love Appropriate since I had a dream about him two nights ago….unhappy dream…erm, he had died, lol–My bad–I don’t control my dreams!
My first love lived an hour away. He worked and took classes in town, which is how we met and how we generally spent time together.
One thing from our relationship that I always think of that just really fills my heart is the fact that he was always more than willing to spend 4 hours of his day driving to pick me up in Douglas, take me home with him to hang out and spend a few hours, then take me back home—I don’t remember him ever complaining.
It was first love–need/want to be around you 24 hours a day kind of love, so it’s fitting that our song was about being too far apart. So I give you Evan and Jaron’s, “The Distance”
The Distance
Of course, that made George Strait’s “Run” come in a close second as ‘our song.’ To this day, when I listen to the song, Dallas gets replaced with Douglas….Can’t help it.
Tonight I made my third trip to Chili’s. Three trips and I’ve yet to fall in love with Chili’s the way everyone else does. In fact, everything I’ve ever eaten at Chili’s I’ve thought, “Restaurant X has this same thing, only better.”
I started out risky. I tried Cajun Chicken Pasta, which was a stretch for me, but it tasted horrible! I gave them that one since I was taking a chance in trying it. Last time we had an Awesome Blossom, which severely lacked Awesome And I also had a bacon cheeseburger that just fell flat….I was trying to stick to something simpler and give them a chance to impress me…no good! There was no flavor whatsoever to that burger. So disappointing.
Last night I went as restaurant-basic as I could think to get. We had their Skillet Queso for a Starter and well, that just made me want to go to Moe’s for decent queso. For my meal I had a sirloin and loaded mashed potatoes. I enjoyed the potatoes, they were yummy, but I’d have much rather had the white cheddar mashed potatoes from Ruby Tuesday. My steak…well I didn’t eat very much of that at all. On top of being cooked nowhere near the way I asked for it, it was flavorless and seemed like it had been marinated in water. There IS such a thing as too juicy!
I haven’t completely given up yet. I signed up for a $5 coupon, so I’ll try once more eventually. Anyone have any suggestions? I’m running out of ideas of what to try on that menu to finally be able to say I enjoyed Chili’s!

Take on Me– A-Ha
And another Mom-song memory! We sang along to this one more times than I can count. It was best in the years when my brother James’s voice was changing and he could actually hit that crazy note!
We’re talking away
I don’t know what
I’m to say I’ll say it anyway
Today’s another day to find you
Shying away
I’ll be coming for your love, OK?
Take on me, take me on
I’ll be gone In a day or two [How many of you actually knew this was the line?! heh]
So needless to say
I’m odds and ends
But that’s me stumbling away
Slowly learning that life is OK.
Say after me
It’s no better to be safe than sorry
Take on me, take me on
I’ll be gone
In a day or two
Oh the things that you say
Is it life or
Just a play my worries away
You’re all the things I’ve got to
remember
You’re shying away
I’ll be coming for you anyway
Take on me, take me on
I’ll be gone
In a day or two
And it was pretty much the most amazing thing when Family Guy did their parody:

Jane–Jefferson Starship
This is one of those songs that just reminds me of being in the car with my mom when I was younger. She’s always had great taste in music! I remember when she first got hooked on this song I liked it just because it was close to my name, but of course after hearing it on repeat every car ride, I just plain liked it.
Jane you say it’s all over for you and me, girl
There’s a time for love and a time for letting it be, baby
Jane you’re playin’ a game called…
Called hard to get by its real name
Makin’ believe that you just don’t feel the same
Oh Jane!
Jane you’re playin’ a game you never can win girl
You’re stayin’ away just so I’ll ask you where you’ve been baby
Like a cat and a mouse (cat and a mouse)
From door to door and house to house
Don’t you pretend you don’t know what I’m talkin’ about
Were all those nights we spent together (hey hey)
Only because you didn’t know better
I’ve got to know
Jane, you’re playin’ a game, you’re playin’ a game, playin’ a game
(Jane Jane Jane)
Oh Jane you’re playin’ a game of hide and go seek
Jane you’re playin’ for fun but I play for keeps; yes I do
(Jane Jane Jane)
That’s a game on me yeah
(Jane Jane Jane)
It’s so plain to see
(Jane Jane Jane)
Janie, Janie, Janie, Janie, Jane
(Jane Jane Jane)
Why you foolin’ with me, me, me
(Jane Jane Jane…)

Better Crocker Complete Meals are by far my favorite quick meal to cook. They have everything in the box, including the meat! I go for the Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo and the Three Cheese Chicken. They come packed with a can of Progresso chicken, which is top of the line when it comes to any sort of canned meat.
All you do is mix the ingredients in a small casserole dish, cover with tin foil, and put in the oven for about 30 minutes! Most come with alternate directions for the skillet or microwave, but I prefer this set it and forget it method. I usually just set a timer and head back to whatever else has been occupying my time!
I think they currently have 5 meals to choose from:
Welcome to the first installment of Remember Wednesday! For the full lowdown of what it’s all about, check out my introductory post.
For my first Remember Wednesday post, I’ve got two songs I’m completely in love with, but come from a really rough patch in my life. Back when Ben, my then boyfriend of 3 years, and I broke up, well, the world pretty much blew up for me. It was something like a 4-5 month process that was just absolutely ridiculous.
Up first is “Best of You,” from Foo Fighters. Wow—talk about a breakup song! Is someone getting the best of you—How many different ways can you interpret this line? I still think this song kicks some major ass and I absolutely can’t listen without rocking out by either spazzing in my chair or screaming along to the lyrics at the top of my lungs. Oh and screaming along with Dave Grohl live? Amazing. I’ve bolded some of the parts that struck me the most at that time.
Best of You
I’ve got another confession to make
I’m your fool
Everyone’s got their chains to break
Holdin’ you
Were you born to resist or be abused?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you? Are you gone and on to someone new?
I needed somewhere to hang my head
Without your noose
You gave me something that I didn’t have
But had no use
I was too weak to give in
Too strong to lose
My heart is under arrest again
But I break loose My head is giving me life or death
But I can’t choose
I swear I’ll never give in
No, I refuse
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
Your trust, you must
Confess
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Oh..
**vocalizing**
Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
The life, the love You’d die to heal
The hope that starts
The broken hearts
Your trust, you must
Confess
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
I’ve got another confession my friend
I’m no fool I’m getting tired of starting again
Somewhere new
Were you born to resist or be abused?
I swear I’ll never give in
I refuse
**And this is the part where spazzing begins…if it hasn’t already**
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
Your trust, you must
Confess
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
And then came Coldplay with “Fix You,” and those soothing words were just what I needed–what I longed for.
Fix You
When you try your best but you don’t succeed When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can’t sleep
Stuck in reverse.
And the tears come streaming down your face When you lose something you can’t replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones And I will try to fix you
And high up above or down below
When you’re too in love to let it go
But if you never try you’ll never know
Just what you’re worth
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
Tears stream, down your face When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down your face and I…
Tears stream, down on your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down your face and I…
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you.

In my quest to eat healthier, and cheaper I discovered these tilapia fillets at Wal Mart. I’m starting to really love fish!
I generally thaw two fillets by just leaving them in the sink with a little water for about 15 minutes. Then I sprinkle them with a little lime juice or cheap cooking wine (you can skip this step, I just do it to open it up a little and let the marinade soak in quicker) and then cover it in a good marinade to sit in the fridge for 20+ minutes–you can experiment with different types of salad dressing and such, but to get you started, I’ve found that soy sauce makes a good marinade and teriyaki sauce as well. I especially love the sweet flavor teriyaki sauce gives it. I don’t like teriyaki at all, but it give the fillets an amazing flavor! Then I just throw them on the Foreman while I make rice or mac n cheese or something for a side dish! Viola!
It something so yummy I actually crave it often! Which is great since there are 16-18 fillets in the box in my freezer right now!
